The Domino Chick

Back in black

Thursday, May 20th, 2004

I'm back safe and sound in L.A. I have lots of things to blog about, not to mention getting some extra files up from the Admin2004 show, but I also have to catch up with the insane amount of work I missed while I was gone, so frequent posting won't start until next week.

But quickly, I found a quote that I think Ed and his evil twin might like:

Even "The Magic 8 Ball" is smart, and knows Microsoft Sucks. It says "Outlook Not Good."

Full review of the Admin2004 show & lots of funtimes Linux goodness coming soon!

Shameless self-promotion

Thursday, May 6th, 2004

I'll join in the shameless self-promotion that some of my fellow speakers are putting in their blogs and let you know where I'll be next week: speaking at the View's Admin2004 conference in Boston. I'll be presenting four sessions: Mail Monitoring and Performance, Maximize Your Server Uptime with Domino Clustering, Running Domino on Linux, and Transitioning Your Skills to WebSphere. I'll also be helping out at the Candle booth in the Solutions Showcase and helping Chris Miller out with his Lotus Instant Messaging (Sametime) jumpstart on Tuesday.

If you're planning to be there, let me know! If not, there's still time to register, you know.

Again, I'd like to apologize for the lack of posts lately - I've been swamped at the office preparing for the our big blue transition, and my time away from the office has been filled with preparation for the View conference and, most recently, a trip to Philadelphia to officiate my big brother's wedding. I promise I'll be posting a lot more stuff in the coming weeks, now that I don't have to prepare for huge events like conferences and weddings.

My next project is to get my laptop to dual-boot RedHat and Win2k - I've been running VMWare on my test box so I can run RedHat with Domino, and that's working great, but VMWare is a HUGE memory hog, and my trusty laptop just isn't beefed up enough to handle it, so I'm just going to repartition the hard drive and create a nice little Linux partition to play with. The really geeky part about it is that I'm going to do some of the work on the plane ride to Boston. I've done this before, but it's been a while, so I'm hoping it will all go well. I'm doing it on a spare hard drive that's been completely backed up (mirrored, in fact) so if I mess anything up, I won't be waking up my fellow passengers with newly made up compound curses. I'll just calmly reformat and ask the flight attendant for another wee drop of single malt.
